Recently, Johan Janssens (aka Jinx in the forums) made a great post on the Joomla! Dev Team Blog (click here to read up).
Johan wrote about some peoples concerns regarding what a Release Candidate is, and about how he would rather the RCs be labelled as beta versions of Joomla!

There is only five days left to vote in the The Packt Open Source Content Management System Award (what a mouthful!).
Voting closes on October 26. There are five categories:
- Overall Winner
- Most Promising Open Source CMS
- Best Open Source PHP CMS
- Best Other Open Source CMS
- Best Social Networking CMS
After the voting has closed, the winners will be announced on October 29.
Last year Joomla! came first, with Drupal coming second, and Plone coming third. While I’m hoping that Joomla! takes out the first prize again, it’s wonderful to see other great open source CMSs being recognised.
You can vote here.

Recently there has been a new developer release of EventList, the powerful event management component from schlu.net. New features include:
- In the image select screen it is now possible to delete images
- A new screen got introduced: “Housekeeping”. Currently you can now delete unused venue and event images with one click.
- Some performance improvements.
This is a developers release, and is not ready for prime time, as EventList 0.9 has been rewritten for Joomla 1.5.
But if you use EventList 0.8 on your website right now, you should download this developers release and test it with your Joomla 1.5 RC3 installations, or SVN.
You can report bugs you may find in the Schlu.net forums. You might also see me in there (user-name: nhudell), as I am a Mod in the forums, and occasionally do English language editing for EventList.

Recently on the Google Groups discussion pages, the core developers posted issues that would need to be worked on for the next Joomla 1.5 Release Candidate, Joomla! 1.5 RC4. Here they are:
- finish the three built-in templates (admin + front).
- the new template from the contest.
- PDF Export.
- performance testing and code profiling.
- testing and improving the caching layer in 1.5.
I am sure that many people will find this fascinating, in that it gives end users (like myself) a real insight into the development of Joomla!
